ARF New Media Fellowship Program:
The program's purpose is to decolonize the minds of Africans, both at home and abroad, by fostering citizen journalism. This will be achieved through the promotion of African culture, arts, history, struggles, achievements, resilience, and the interconnected diversity of African people, both domestically and internationally. Concurrently, the program aims to advance US strategic interests in Africa by highlighting US contributions to the economic, social, and human development of African nations.
The fellowship program seeks to empower any African and Caribbean social media user to become a citizen journalist, enabling them to proficiently share their own narratives using innovative multimedia technologies and Web 3.0. This will serve to raise awareness about the United States' positive role in Africa's economic, social, and human development. The program provides selected fellows with the opportunity to adeptly use social media tools for reporting on diverse topics about African culture, arts, history, struggles, achievements, and resilience.
Recruitment for our inaugural cohorts will kick off on October 1, 2024, with interviews scheduled to begin on December 1, 2024. The 2025 cohorts are set to begin on February 1, 2025. All training courses will be conducted online to ensure accessibility.
We are actively seeking participants from Africa, the Caribbean, and North America. Applicants must identify as being of African descent by ethnicity, race, or birthplace in Africa. We uphold the value of equal opportunity and welcome applications from all races, genders, and creeds. The primary requirement is a commitment to promoting US strategic interests in Africa and the Caribbean region.
